The experimental results demonstrate the high accuracy and efficiency of the proposed model with dimensionality reduction and show that SHAP enhances the explainability in a conventional deep learning model for system prognosis.Pleurotus geesteranus is a promising source of bioactive compounds. However, knowledge of the antioxidant behaviors of P. geesteranus protein hydrolysates (PGPHs) is limited. In this study, PGPHs were prepared with papain, alcalase, flavourzyme, pepsin, and pancreatin, respectively. The antioxidant properties and cytoprotective effects against oxidative stress of PGPHs were investigated using different chemical assays and H2O2 damaged PC12 cells, respectively. The results showed that PGPHs exhibited superior antioxidant activity. Especially, hydrolysate generated by alcalase displayed the strongest 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity (91.62%), 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothia zoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity (90.53%), ferric reducing antioxidant power, and metal ion-chelating activity (82.16%). Analysis of amino acid composition revealed that this hydrolysate was rich in hydrophobic, negatively charged, and aromatic amino acids, contributing to its superior antioxidant properties. Additionally, alcalase hydrolysate showed cytoprotective effects on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in PC12 cells via diminishing intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation by stimulating antioxidant enzyme activities. Taken together, alcalase hydrolysate of P. geesteranus protein can be used as beneficial ingredients with antioxidant properties and protective effects against ROS-mediated oxidative stress.This Editorial highlights a remarkable study in the current issue of the Journal of Neurochemistry in which Hascup and coworkers provide novel data showing that riluzole, an anti-glutamatergic drug, may be a promising early intervention strategy for Alzheimer's disease (AD), aimed at restoring glutamate neurotransmission prior to amyloid beta (Aβ) plaque accumulation and cognitive decline. The mice APP/PS1, a model of AD, initially are cognitively normal but have elevated glutamate release in the hippocampus at 2-4 months of age. They begin showing cognitive decline and Aβ plaque accumulation at approximately 6-8 months of age, and show obvious AD neuropathology and cognitive impairment at 10-12 months. The riluzole treatment over 4 months (at 2-6 months of age) targeting early changes in glutamatergic neurotransmission prevents cognitive decline observed at 12 months of age and restores glutamatergic neurotransmission. We examined the association between long-term exposure to low-level air pollution and COPD incidence.
Within the 'Effects of Low-Level Air Pollution A Study in Europe' (ELAPSE) study, we pooled data from three cohorts, from Denmark and Sweden, with information on COPD hospital discharge diagnoses. Hybrid land use regression models were used to estimate annual mean concentrations of particulate matter with a diameter&lt;2.5?m (PM), nitrogen dioxide (NO), and black carbon (BC) in 2010 at participants' baseline residential addresses, which were analysed in relation to COPD incidence using Cox proportional hazards models.
Of 98,058 participants, 4,928 developed COPD during 16.6years mean follow-up. The adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals for associations with COPD incidence were 1.17 (1.06, 1.29) per 5?g/mfor PM, 1.11 (1.06, 1.16) per 10?g/mfor NO, and 1.11 (1.06, 1.15) per 0.5 10mfor BC. Despite a very similar clinical presentation among subtypes, the differential diagnosis is limited by the difficulty to identify bradykinin-mediated PA and the lack of specific biomarkers.
To report the clinical and genetic features of Brazilian patients with PA.
Brazilian patients referred from 50 centers were diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms, C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) and C4 plasma measurements, and DNA sequencing of genes associated with hereditary angioedema.
We characterized 92 patients with acquired angioedema and 425 with HAE 125 with C1-INH deficiency, 180 with F12 mutations, and 120 of unknown cause. Thirty-one different mutations were identified in SERPING1 and 2 in F12, in addition to 2 mutations of uncertain significance in the ANGPT1 gene. The molecular diagnosis was decisive for 34 patients with HAE without family history, and for 39% of patients with inconsistent biochemical measurements. The median delay in diagnosis was 10 years, with a maximum of 18 years for HAE with C1-INH deficiency. Androgens and tranexamic acid were the most used drugs for long-term prophylaxis in all the PA subtypes, and they were used on demand by 15% of patients. Only 10% of patients reported the use of specific medication for HAE during attacks.
